BTB is I-L-L
I had to take Molly to the pediatrician's after school today. She came down with a little coughy business on Monday, seemed a little better yesterday, but was pretty puny today. The docter said it's just a head cold--her ears & lungs are clear. Phew.
She is still being her little trooper self. She's so precious.

Also, Kowyn is four years old today. A big old Happy Birthday! to her.

more from roo & lu's party
As the title indicates, here are a few more pictures from the party at Andrew & Laura's last week. It was GREAT to see everyone there. One of my favorite things about the holidays is that we get to see all our friends that we used to see much more often. With all the babies, jobs, etc., it just isn't possible to see each other as much as we'd like. It was so good to catch up with everyone!

You gotta love a girl & her daddy...

'Course you don't have to see him to know who HER daddy is...

Resemble much?!?!
You can always count on good music at the Heck house...

Molly even burst forth in song--but who's surprised by that?

Overall, year eight's Thanksgiving gala was a rip-roaring success. I'm already looking forward to next year's dinner!
Thanks Andrew & Laura--We love y'all!

turns out you CAN go home again
After a fun-filled holiday with G-mama & Grandaddy in Mid-Tenn, we're back on 51st Street & it does feel good to be home. We had a great time visiting with Jerad's family--good food, good conversation, AND good cable. We ended our visit with a hocky game last night. That's one thing that we really miss about living in Nashville--Predators games ROCK!
Here are a few highlights...

Molly enjoyed eating cream of wheat with G-mama.

She also enjoyed playing peek-a-boo in her cabinets.

BTB was a little scared of the horse at first...

...but she came around. Her aunt Sarah will make a cowgirl out of her yet!

Bee ate herself into a stupor just like the rest of us...

We were so excited to take Molly to her first hocky game.

Jerad & I loved watching the game, and Molly loved her first chocolate ice cream, cotton candy, and hot chocolate. We thought that she'd be all jacked up on suger & unable to sleep, but she was crashed out by the time we got out of the parking lot.
So, once again, family tops my list of things for which I am thankful. We hope you & yours enjoyed your holiday as well!

more student work
Sometimes I have to sit back & think, "I really am lucky to work in the best 'worst' school in the county."
These pictures are from the work that is currently on display in the school gallery--open to the public; come one, come all!
This exhibit is of "I AM" poetry (I put some examples on lushpuppy) matted with mixed-media frames.

This painting of Osceola (sp?) is by one of our 8th graders.

This poster is an example of the quarterly project that my students did to wrap up our "Generation to Genration" literature unit.

I love my kids so much--I really will miss them over the holiday.
Speaking of all my children.... Molly went with me & some of my kids to "The Christmas Carol" at the Tivoli today. It was a lot of fun. Molly spent the second half of the performance crowd surfing--going from kid to kid. Since she goes to school with me every day, I think that she thinks that she has 300 big brothers & sisters!
Her first ballet today, her first hocky game (match?) in Nashville this weekend--our little girl in growing up...
coming soon...
~a report on Molly's first Predators game/match---will she inherit the bloodlust?
~Molly's first picture with Santa (we're getting scanning capabilities just in time for the holidays-yeah!)

I'm thankful for elastic waistbands
Tonight was the 8th-annual Monday night Thanksgiving dinner at Andrew & Laura's house. I have to say--with all apologies to our relatives--it's always the best meal that we have all holiday long. We are lucky to part of a social circle that can do a potluck dinner up right.
Here's sweet baby Sileas...

Don't tell me that these two aren't going to be trouble...

For some reason the rest of the pictures won't load tonight & I'm getting sleepy, so I'll try again tomorrow...

our day

Bee started out the day with her usual winning attitude. After some Cream of Wheat & watching Rummy on Face the Nation, we needed to get outside for some fresh air.

We spent the afternoon chillin'...teddy grahams, sippy cup... you know how we do it in Mo-town, yo.

After BaBa's great dinner, it was time for a little bathtime shenanigans.

student poetry
Here are some poems from my 8th-grade English classes. We've been working on personal writing, and I gave them a template for an autobiographical poem (I am...I wonder...I want...I say...etc.).
Here's what three of them came up with...
I AM
I am smart & funny.
I wonder what I'll look like in the future.
I want to be somebody.
I say God loves the world.
I pretend to be mean.
I feel happy.
I worrry about nothing.
I cry when my mom cry.
I am smart & funny.
I understand that people talk about me.
I dream to be famous.
I try to be a good kid.
I hope that people understand me.
I am smart & funny.
I AM
I am myself & crazy.
I wonder is my mother coming home, and will she stay.
I want a life of my own.
I say I love myself.
I am myself & crazy.
I pretend that I'm on my own.
I feel bad today.
I worry about my brothers & sisters.
I cry cause I miss my mother.
I am myself & crazy.
I understand what I know.
I dream about running away.
I try to make an effort in life.
I hope I be a good parent.
I am myself & crazy.
I AM
I am black with big shiny cheeks.
I wonder if my friend is okay from the Hurricane Katrina accident.
I want to go to Paris forever.
I say that all people should not be judged before you know them.
I am black with big shiny cheeks.
I pretend that I am getting married to Daffy Duck.
I feel that all people should be loved by one another.
I worry that my grandparents might die so soon.
I cry whenever something emotional or dramatic is going on.
I am black with big shiny cheeks.
I understand that most people aren't always the way you hope they are.
I dream that I was still laughing and playing with my friend.
I try not to tell everything wrong in my life.
I hope that my friend Raven would come back.
I am black with big shiny cheeks.
...needless to say, I love my job.

saw mill man
Y'all have got to check out this article from today's Wall Street Journal.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB113157707423092805.html?mod=todays_us_personal_journal
Not the one about basketball, who cares?
Scroll on down past the Golden Girls...what a show, though.
On past Frank McCourt's new book, which does sound good.
There they are--Matt & Cast. The Wall Street Journal and old Sand Mountain. The phrase "when worlds collide" comes to mind.

molly's best summer yet
Molly got on a horse for the first time this summer at her G-mama & Grandaddy's house in Gallatin.

Jerad & I learned this summer that Molly can eat her own weight in sweet potatoes.

The next few are from our trip to Hilton Head with Brian & Kara. We had such a great time.

Molly loves sitting in her buddy, Mason's, yellow chair.

cast
Here is a link that tells all about an album that Cast King did with Matt. In my opinion, it is one of the finest country albums in a long time.
http://www.locustmusic.com/castking.html
I think there's a CD release party in the works. If you've never gotten to see Cast & Matt perform, it is not to be missed. Another band with whom my brother plays, Citico, also performs around town a lot. Their shows are lots of fun, too. In fact, Molly's first concert outing (I think she was 3 months or so--still Baby Bjorning it!), was a Citico show at the Dog House in St. Elmo.
All right, go check out Cast...he's off da chain, yo.
